I don't think that the encompassing of homosexuality along with thieves is a good one. Not to mention murderer. And if you really do what you claim, you are lumping some undesirable element that should be put to rest along with other people that lead their lives within an ethical point of reference.

How can you tell if someone's Jewish just from seeing their words? Once again, I have no idea what you're talking about, Joe.You know that Memo and Info have had some problems before. I just hope, since Jim's been nice enough to let Info back in here, that he'll drop the sarcasm and bitterness and quit judging people. I won't be communicating with him until I know what his intentions are. (So don't talk to me - I won't reply)
I really don't think a thread that has upset him so much is the place he should be hanging out at anyway. I really don't understand why he wants to post in here. His opinion of most of us has been made very clear in the past. There is still some bitterness in his tone, and I surely hope he's not here to cause trouble. Just so you know....this thread is not about your opinion of others! It's about comparing what we think is proof of existence or non-existence of a creator, the science and philosphy behind the idea. Refrain from derogatory comments about our character traits. Instead, concentrate on analyzing the traits of these very different groups of society. We do not need to know why you are pissed off at someone, or don't want to talk to them anymore. Keep your petty problems to yourselves and use email if you absolutely must discuss them. Yeah, we haven't had a good burning or stoning in ages. Why not? The bible says to kill these people who commit any acts of perversion. Why isn't there more murder by stone or burning at the stake? Maybe because it's just plain wrong?
Why would such a forgiving god ask us to kill people, and innocent animals who fall victim to beastiality? I mean, what did the animal do wrong? It just doesn't make sense....

Hmmm. It has occurred to me that the closure of this thread is EXACTLY what some who bitch and spit are after! But that would be a victory for the supression of free speech. We're probably not the only ones (down under) who look to the U.S. as the champions of freedom. Perhaps this is misplaced. I know, as a relatively new member, I risk being accused of having no right to speak in the manner I'm about to. Feel free to poke fun at me, if you like - we can then all have a laugh (and I'm conceited enough for it to be like water off a duck's back - actually that's not quite true - I USED to be conceited ...but now I'm perfect). But please don't flame me as my intentions are good (and yes, yes, I know, the road to hell is paved with 'em - I've been there - and back, thanks!).
So, just what rights DO any of us have on this board? I submit we have NO inherent "rights", as such - we have "privileges" - something GRANTED us by another. A privilege can be just as easily taken away (a right cannot).
It's been pointed out in several places now that the privileges granted us on this board include the free discussion of ideas - they do not extend to personal attacks. Complain as much as you like, but if you've abused a privilege and lost it, you've only yourself to blame.
Should this thread be closed (again) then I would feel I'd lost a privilege through someone ELSE's abuse of that same privilege. I would have good reason to be annoyed.
But how to get this thread back on an even keel? Well, I've been examining at which points in the discussion personal vitriol has appeared. There is an all-too obvious pattern to it. Apparently, there are subjects which are considered by some to be taboo. Race and sexuality are two such hot topics.
Apparently, it's OK to actively discriminate, vilify, slander, etc. (which goes against the teachings from the very same source purported to support such evil, I might add) - but NOT OK to discuss the same (how dare we!). It's do-able, but unmentionable! Apparently.
Course, I have to be careful, here - I've already broken down and confessed about once slanging off at "poofs". But now that I've managed to shed my homophobia, I feel oh-so superior and smug 'n all that. Seeing as I now hold such high moral ground, I feel I can continue (looking for an "instant gremlin" with haughty expression, nose in air - couldn't find one - imagine one...here).
As for racial discrimination, well, I've never really experienced that particular kind of mob hysteria - so, I just don't know what it's all about, frankly. Sure, the italian/greek kids I went to school with were labelled "wogs" (who, in return, labelled us "skips" - from "Skippy, the Bush Kangaroo"). But it never got real nasty - more like calling someone big-nose, or whatever. Kids are cruel like that!
So, should we just avoid these topics? There's plenty else to discuss - stuff that won't generate so much heat. Here's my vote (for what it's worth)...
If the TV channel you are watching is showing something you don't like - change the channel - switch it off - go and do something else - whatever. You have that right. But do NOT presume the right to control others in what THEY choose to watch! You simply do not HAVE that right. How dare you presume so!!
