Errors, mistakes, blunders, and ignorance in the bibleThe word arrogance has come up various times to describe the xians in this thread. I don't think arrogance is the word. There is some elegance inherent into it, and also an arrogant person usually can back up his/her cockiness. I think that a better word would be monothematic, or narrow minded, and in some cases flat out ignorant. The reason for their belief in an entity that explains it all is so demanding of validity, that I guess the best term to describe people who believe without critical thinking would be simpleton. There has been no name calling at all. If someone gets irked by the name ignorant, or simpleton, then it is indeed a matter of lack of confidence and self esteem that is at the root of that feeling. I don't take offense if I'm called a sinner, so why would a believer take offense in words that depict him to a tee. SATAN, stop posting rubbish, will you man? Otherwise I'll simply delete your posts. No foul language is to be used. I noticed that Jim had to edit one post. That will NOT be tolerated. This debate will continue in a respectful and civilized way, or it will not continue at all. Cheers. -------------------- Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends.

Ok, so I broke my promise. Hehehe I just had to comment. This has been one cool and annoying thread. I realised the other day that you just can't reason with these monothiests. Their narrow minds won't allow them to veer from their only track. It's sad that they live in so much fear. So many people fearing whatever they don't understand. Drugs, death, life, accidents, real emotions....etc. It's what I like to call "false humanity". I will never be able to comprehend fear to that degree. I'm far to curious to be afraid of the things that I have no control over. I do not appreciate being threatened by these weak individuals. I'm a survivor....I'm strong. I don't need an imaginary friend with magical powers to make me feel safe. My hell has been here on Earth. Fortunately, I made it through my hell the only way I could. My mom used to say, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." She believes in god though. Not to the degree of mental illness like these freaks. My mother and father were very unselfish people in their decision to let me decide for myself what is true and what is utter BS. I think they did a great job, for I can see right through their disguises....hiding their guilt behind a protective wall of god. Some of us are evolving a bit faster than others. This is why you see more and more agnostics in the world today. Hopefully, this evolution will continue to increase, and the one's who just can't see the big picture will fade away into history. I tell you, history just never happens fast enough for me. Over 500 years later, we're still watching persecution at it's finest everyday. The world would be a wonderful place if people could just learn to live and let live. Why do you feel such a need to control anothers' right to do and feel what they please? HOLY S**T!!!! My dog just ate a tennis ball!!! ROFLMAO!!!! Never seen that happen before...... -------------------- Can't we all just smoke a bong? My Specs

What I have been trying to say all along.
On evolution, however, I must ask a question. If you truly believe in evolution, would not the purpose of us as humans, to be gone? So, are you saying, that we as humans are the problem? On the truth topic. I think we are getting a little confused of our definitions of truth and belief. Forget everything I said for just a moment... Definitions of the words truth and belief: truth- the body of real things, events, and facts belief- a state or habit of mind in which trust or confidence is placed in some person or thing Some people believed that the world was once flat. [belief, it being truth that ppl have actually believed in this] Then, it was proven to be round. [truth] So the people believed that the world was literally flat, did this make it true? How many people hear believe the world is flat? How many people believe the world is round? Let's say that we had people, from both sides come in and say what they believed. Which one is true? Obviously, the world is literally round. So would you still say "No doubt that for you there can be only one truth, why can you not accept that for each individual there is their own truth? You see, someone is right, and someone is wrong... who?

You would've been one to believe the world was flat just because it was popular. I, on the other hand, would've been burned at the stake by the likes of your kind for speaking my mind. You contradict yourself with every new post. Don't you see it? I have decided to analyze your psyche now because there is no point in arguing with you anymore. You're a very childish and insecure person. You stick out like a sore thumb. I see right through you......and it's very ugly.

In the physical world there can be only one truth (although not static), but in the metaphysical one, the theory that only one truth applies is plain and simple ignorance. If we were to apply the concept of one unique and total truth, there would only be one philosophical school, and we all know that there are several, each one with its code of ethics and tenets. The one thing that needs no proof is that agnostics and atheists have never caused random acts of lunacy in which a whole bunch of people commit collective suicide to accomodate the wishes of their religious leader, and that by itself should be enough to separate rational thinking from complete madness. Cheers. -------------------- Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends.

Hey, there, SloppyGoat! I'm almost afraid to reply (lest AdamBomb sends hoards of missionaries to descend upon my little town, seeking the whereabouts of The Toxic Typist to save his soul!) I'm right over on the other side (east) in Victoria in a little country town that's just about to get swallowed up by the expanding suburbs of Melbourne. We don't have too much of a problem with zealots down here - got other things to worry 'bout, like: hang on, it's raining outside - YES! - wup! - it's stopped - oh, well, 3 drops are better than none, I suppose! "The land that God forgot", it's been called (forget who said that). People pull together in adversity. And our farmers must reckon God's a real bitch!

About evolution. You have set a standard that you will accept as proof. Somebody says that they can't give you that standard, so you are saying the theory is wrong. If somebody told me the only way they'd believe that the sun really existed was if they could walk on it, I would tell them the exact same thing I'm telling you. Science can't give you that level of "proof", however, we can give you a great deal of other evidence that shows that the sun is indeed a real object and not some trickery. Science can back up that the theory of Evolution seems to be the best theory around. We can observe it.. we can test it.. we can find fossil evidence that shows how animals and species develop over time. The horse example is one of them. As we find more fossils, and as science learns more, it adds to what it knows, and adjusts it's theory.
Let me repeat this again, the "proof" you want is not something that you'll find in science because the "proof" you want is beyond what we can do, however we can "prove" things by other means. We can't "prove" the speed of light by building a rocket car and testing it. We CAN however "prove" the speed of light in other ways. You want the rocket powered car of evolution (so to speak) we can't do that, so you claim evolution isn't proven. When we tell you we can show other forms of "proof" you wave it because you are set that the only evidence you'll accept is the rocket powered car. -------------------- Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends.

Just knew you'd deliver, memo.!BTW, I think there are some islands somewhere (Galapagos?) where the process of evolution can actually be observed over several seasons. Some species of finches adapt to the changing climate by changing their beak proportions. It goes something liket his: A few dry years cause the nuts that they feed on to become smaller and harder. The birds with shorter, stouter beaks can break them more easily and so, do better - their chicks are more numerous than those with longer, thinner beaks. A few nesting seasons like this and - presto - natural selection produces an all short-beaked generation. Presumably, the odd throw-back appears because, after a few wetter seasons (the nuts are fatter and softer, which favours the long, skinny beaks) and the situation reverses. Of course, I'm in grave danger of being called a liar, here! BTW, you got a girl in every port, SloppyGoat? Half yer luck! There is a Mandurah about 50Km (~31miles) south of Perth on the coast.

Good advice for all, that, Raider (there's more of them in that book o' yours, too). This just in... A manual recount has shown that the automated method of vote-counting failed to recognise a very early post as a vote ("I believe in memo" - Madevilz). The new tally is 1-all so, we don't yet have a clear winner! Its a tie!(Recount?)
